  • What kind of personal data does Whydonate collect?

We only process and collect personal data that is necessary for the purposes for which it is processed:

If you are a donor, we collect the following personal data:

  • Personal identification: (name);

We use your name to correctly address you and show the fund who donated (unless the donor is anonymous)

  • Contact information (e-mail address);

This data is used to send you service e-mails.

  • Payment information (IBAN);

So we can debit the donations from and transfer them to the correct IBAN.

  • Electronic identification information and technical information (IP address and location).
    We collect this data to prevent fraud and get insight in the location of the donator.

If you initiate a fundraising, we collect the following personal data:

  • Personal identification: (name, login details);

We use your name to correctly address you and show other users who you are. Your password is saved in an encrypted way so only you can access it; not us and not someone else.

  • Contact information (e-mail address);

This data is used to identify you, when you login and to send you service e-mails. In addition, you can sign up for the regular email update. This means we occasionally send you an update with the most interesting developments and projects on the platform. Of course, you can use your account to unsubscribe for these at any time.

  • Payment information (IBAN);

So we can debit the donations from and transfer them to the correct IBAN.

  • Electronic identification information and technical information (IP address and location).
    We collect this data to prevent fraud and get insight in the location of the donator.
  • Profile info;

You can add more information about yourself and the charity on your profile so other users can see who you are and what the cause is. That makes it easier for us to link donators and causes.

You decide what information from your profile is visible for other users. So, if you do not want to share your personal information with other users, you don’t have to. We want to be sure that you are happy with the entire experience on our platform, so if you want to keep your identity as a supporter/donor hidden, we make this possible. This means you can make an anonymous donation. In that case, there is no name attributed to your donation.

  • The goal of data processing

We collect personal data on you as a user of our platform in order to offer a safe, optimal and user friendly experience. Data processing only takes place for the following specific purposes:

  • Correct handling of donations: administration of donations, support, complaint monitoring and the sending of service messages;
  • Security and protection from fraud and violations;
  • Personalised user experience, marketing, advertising and newsletters if you have explicitly signed up for these. In this case, you can opt out at any time;
  • Statistical purposes

The personal data that we collect will not be retained longer than necessary for the above purposes

  • On what legal basis is my personal data processed?

In compliance with privacy regulations, we process your personal data based on the following:

  • Fulfillment of an agreement with you. For example, when you donate or want to start a fundraising campaign.
  • Compliance with legal or regulatory requirements;
  • Our legitimate interest, for example to keep you posted on a fundraising you supported.
  • Your explicit consent.

  • Does Whydonate share my personal data with third parties?

We only share your personal data with third parties that support us in our business process and have a data processing agreement with us. Think, for example, of our web hosting party or the payment provider. We never sell or share your information for third-party marketing purposes.

In addition, the organizer of the fundraiser can see the name and email address of the donors, unless the donor makes an anonymous donation.

We will never post messages on your Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Google+, LinkedIn or other social media accounts without your permission. If you use social media buttons on our platform, for example to share a funding page, then please read the privacy statement of the social network’s button you use.

To protect your personal data, we take appropriate security measures. That is why we use a secure internet environment as soon as you start the payment of your donation. Through SSL (Secure Socket Layers), transactional data is encrypted before it is sent via the internet. You can recognize the safe SSL connection by the https:// in the address in your address bar.

The hosting of our platform is executed by our reliable partner Google. We use their data centre in Belgium. That means that the servers where the data is stored are inside the European Economic Area (EEA). We will take all possible security measures to ensure your personal data is safe on these servers and within the EEA.
